Imagine a city full of people that looks like a ghost town… Imagine a town where schools are closed more days than they are open… Imagine teenagers terrified to take showers because they may not hear the siren warning them that a missile is about to strike…
You’ve just imagined life in Sderot, Israel.
Each day, a constant barrage of missiles leaves children in Sderot terrified of leaving their own homes.
This July, Children of Sderot Summer Relief Project will airlift 110 kids out of this hellish war zone to a summer in heaven at 11 American Jewish camps.
During the day, they will play sports, laugh with new friends and explore their Judaism. At night, they’ll sleep without fear—for the first time in seven long years.
This is a dream that you can help us realize. Last summer, through the initiative of Jewish Russian Community of Boston, 20 Sderot children spent their summers in Jewish day camps in Boston and New Hampshire including Chanan Yacobov, 12, whose father had been killed by a missile three months before camp. This year, we will send 11 groups of 10 kids to Jewish day camps from Montreal to California.
For this, we need your help.
Our local cost for this project is $35,000 of which $22,500 was already donated. This will cover airfare, visas, food, medical insurance, housing and other living expenses.
Experts say that up to 94 percent of Sderot children exhibit symptoms of post-traumatic stress. We’re asking you to play guardian angel and unlock the gates to a worry free summer for these children. Any contribution – big or small – will help and be greatly appreciated.
